Deciding to send your child to a religious school has many benefits that are not just religious in nature. There are academic, spiritual, social, and emotional advantages that come with attending a religious school environment. Everyday exposure once-per-week religious education classes can’t match the everyday exposure your child will have by attending a religious school. Academics will intertwine with religious teachings and vice versa, which gives your child a unique and strong understanding of his or her faith. Issues of social justice, moral, and ethical responsibilities and other topics of religious and spiritual importance will be a facet of everyday life and learning when your child attends this type of school.

according to the national center for education statistics (nces), students in private schools (most of which are christian-affiliated) consistently score well above the national average on the national assessment of education progress, a test that evaluates the nation’s fourth, eighth, and twelfth graders. These students outscore their public school peers on reading, math, and science achievement tests, too. 2 these academic advantages are credited in part to smaller class sizes and to more teachers holding advanced degrees. But does the more rigorous academic experience in christian schools really matter for student success in the long run? it does. Nces studies show that students who attend private christian schools through eighth grade are twice as likely as their public school peers to complete a bachelor’s or higher degree.
Public schools have massive funding. Public schools have a huge number of offerings. Public schools have the resources of state and local government and the backing of the federal government. Even with all this, public schools are failing our children. The national center for education statistics (nces) reported this year that “scores decline again for 13-year-old students in reading and mathematics. ”private schools do have advantages for parents and students. Over the next few posts, we’ll look at some of the advantages of private schools in general and christian schools in particular.
